I moved out of an apartment on May 2nd. I gave the required 30 days notice, and Minnesota law states I should get the deposit back within 21 days. It's now June 12th and I've still no deposit. I've tried to contact the owner via email twice and he has not responded. I would call him but I lost his cell phone number. Is there anything I can do?|||Send a written demand letter for the return of your deposit. Give him 30 days to respond or you will seek redress in court.
The follow through and file a small claims action in 30 days if he does not return the deposit.
Document everything, and keep a copy of the demand letter. Send the demand letter according to the tenant land lord law of Minnesota. Follow the wording of the law precisely. If the law says send the demand letter first class, send it first class, if the law says registered mail, use registered mail.|||If the loandlord is local, I would go see him/her personally. If you left the premises in good condition, there is no reason for the landlord to not give you your deposit.
If you unsuccful in getting your deposit back amicable, consider taking him/her to small claims court.
