hi.my deposit was protected in tenancy deposit scheme called 'the dispute service'.its been a month since i move out but agency still didn't give me my deposit.excuse is not being able to get hold of the landlord.how soon by law they have to return my money?thanks for your help.|||Moving out

At the end of tenancy the condition and contents of the property should be checked against the agreement made at the start of the tenancy. The landlord or agent then agrees with the tenant how much of the deposit will be returned to them.

Within 10 days the agreed amount of the deposit will be returned to the tenant.|||It's either going to be twenty-one days or thirty days depending on your state's law. That's the maximum in which they have to send it out, meaning if you're state allows thirty days, you still may not get it until thirty-two or thirty-three days after vacating. If any deductions were made from your deposit, their required to send an itemized statement as to where the money went (if all of the deposit was used and didn't cover the work, a bill may be included as well).

I'm not familiar with using a third party to hold security deposits. You'll have look at what paperwork you signed with them as to how the deposit is returned.|||I know rental laws can vary by state, and I'm not sure where you are asking from but I know in my state and many others the law is the Landlord must return your security deposit, plus interest, within 30 days of your final lease date. If they do not, you can take them to small claims court - and in many area's you may be awarded double your deposit.|||varies from state to state - but is usually close to your rental period. If you pay rent every month, usually you should have your money in 30 days. check your lease or agreement, then check with a legal aid in your state -- if this is a security deposit, it could be treated differently. where i managed property, security deposits were serious business----greater than 30 days interest had to be paid, and anything that was not deemed right by the court could cause the owner to reimburse the tenant 3X the deposit amount...

check this out www.LawGuru.com, might be able to help|||There isn't a maximum time, because if there is a dispute then it may need to be investigated by TDS or referred to your local court.

What you should do is contact the TDS with your UID number - this is on your deposit certificate which the agent gave you within 14 days of paying the deposit. They will set the wheels in motion to get your deposit back - they can pay even if the LL ignores them. Their number is 0845 226 7837.|||28 days answer mine http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ak4_VQKhCPv3cdq4ZOfQm1vsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20091204123239AABtc2j
